TD Music Hall presents

Hard to believe but February 2024 marks the 10 year anniversary of Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar!

Driven by the awe inspiring, emotion-laden power of Samantha Martin’s gospel and soul-rooted vocals, Delta Sugar’ first performance was at a Folk Alliance International showcase back in 2014. As the showcase was in a small room, the organizers insisted on no drums and bass. Always up for a challenge, Samantha hired two background vocalists to go along with two guitars and proceeded to set the room on fire. While Samantha had already made a name with herself as the lead singer and front woman of Samantha Martin and the Haggard, from that point forward the soul-enriching three-part vocal blend of Delta Sugar would be her future.

In 2014, the group’s largely acoustic debut album, Send the Nightingale, hit the streets. Festival and club bookings immediately followed as the group’s sound was wholly unique within the Canadian blues and soul scene. In 2018, Samantha Martin and Delta Sugar released their sophomore effort, Run To Me, which was nominated for a Juno Award. Her songwriting prowess had grown considerably as had the group’s touring schedule. Delta Sugar began to move towards a heady fusion of plaintive soul driving and rock and roll, Samantha expanded the group to include the powerful strutting punch of a full horn section for both high profile live gigs and the recording of the group’s third album, 2020’s Juno-nominated The Reckless One.

Ten years in, Samantha Martin and Delta Sugar have released three albums, received two Juno nominations as well as multiple Blues award nominations in Canada and the UK. They have also enjoyed an impressive amount of radio play and, sporting a rock-to-you-drop work ethic, the group has continually hit the road, playing an insane number of gigs in Canada, the U.S, and Europe, consistently earning rave reviews.

It is indeed time to celebrate ten wondrous years of Samantha Martin and Delta Sugar. To that end, the band is playing a very special show at the TD Music Hall on Saturday February 24th, 2023.

The concert will showcase the evolution of the band and span a decade of Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar’s song catalog as well as a handful of new songs that will be released over the next year. To celebrate ten great years, the group plans to tear the roof off the sucker. Be there or be square. This is going to be a very special night!
